Developmental screening provides a quick snapshot of a child’s progress in key developmental areas. Regular screenings celebrate strengths and identify areas where additional support may be needed, ensuring children receive early intervention when necessary.
One widely used screening tool is the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), which assesses early developmental milestones in areas such as language, motor skills, problem-solving, and social skills. Similar to other preventative health measures, the primary purpose of the ASQ is to detect potential concerns early, allowing for timely support and intervention.
To assist families in navigating developmental concerns, Child Action, Inc. offers enhanced referrals for parents seeking care for children with special needs and can connect them to Help Me Grow Sacramento. Child care providers can find support through training and guidance from the Quality Child Care Collaborative (QCCC), a team of consultants from Sacramento County Office of Education Infant Development Program, Department of Health & Human Services, Warmline Family Resource Center, and Child Action, Inc. This team helps providers create inclusive environments where all children can thrive.
The QCCC is an essential resource for child care providers. This initiative offers a variety of free services, including support in implementing the ASQ within child care programs. The QCCC Consultation Team plays a crucial role in ensuring children ages 0-5 receive the developmental support they need. Consultants work directly with caregivers, offering expert guidance on fostering inclusive settings, engaging in meaningful conversations with parents about developmental concerns, and connecting families with local support services.
By partnering with the QCCC and using developmental screening tools like the ASQ, child care providers can play a vital role in promoting high-quality, inclusive early education and care in Sacramento County.
