October Is a Month to Celebrate Everyone

Did you know that October is full of important celebrations? This month, people all across the country honor LGBTQ+ History Month , National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, National Coming Out Day, and World Mental Health Day. At first, these might seem like very different events. But they all have something in common—they celebrate people, their stories, and the important roles they play in our world. Together, they show us what inclusion means: everyone is important, everyone is valued, and everyone deserves to be celebrated.

Here at Child Action, we believe that honoring different identities makes our community stronger. That’s why we use our ACROSS. (Affinity, Composition, Responsibility, Outcome, Sensitivity, Securable) values to guide us. ACROSS reminds us to care about each other’s experiences and learn from the many cultures, traditions, and stories around us
When we celebrate together, we learn that differences are not something to divide us—they are something to share. Whether it’s through history, culture, ability, or personal identity, each of us brings something special that adds to our classrooms, neighborhoods, and families. This October, we encourage kids and families to be curious. Ask questions. Listen to someone’s story. Share your own traditions. Every time we learn about each other, we take a step toward building a kinder, stronger, and more inclusive community.
Happy October! Let’s celebrate together!
