Celebrate Week of the Young Child (WOYC) by Speaking Up for Young Children

Family and parent advocacy in child care is essential for your child’s overall development, well-being, and success. When you actively participate in your child’s early learning, it leads to better learning outcomes, social-emotional growth, and a supportive environment.

Advocacy ensures that children’s needs are met by influencing policies and practices that promote high-quality, inclusive, accessible, and affordable child care. Engaged families also help create a sense of community, strengthening relationships between caregivers, educators, and children to provide the best possible early learning experiences.

Parents in Sacramento County can advocate for child care in several ways:

  • Join a parent advocacy group – contact us at advocacy@childaction.org to find out how!
  • Reach out to your local officials – contact city council members, county supervisors, and state legislators to advocate for specific child care policies and bills. Check out these Talking Points to get the conversation started.
  • Not sure who your representatives are? Visit here.
  • Share your story – write your local officials, attend public meetings, and share on social media
